LLC 5160 - Historical and Legal Foundations of Bilingual Education.

Comprehensive survey of education programs for language minority students. Includes an overview of U.S. and Colorado history and legislation related to bilingual education and second language education. Presents various models, philosophies and theoretical underpinnings of education for language minority students. Develops skills in critical comparison of approaches to second language education in relation to student populations. This course fulfills the culture requirement for the Colorado LDE Endorsement and the LDE Master’s concentration. It may also serve as an elective in the LDE Master’s concentration.Semester Hours: 3Note: LLC 5140, LLC 5150, LLC 5160-Each of these three courses satisfies the requirements for the Colorado Endorsement in Linguistically Diverse Education and the BESL Master’s concentration. The content of the courses are related, but the focus of each course is sufficiently different that students in the Master’s program may use a second or third course in the sequence as an elective.
