Visual Communication of Science Minor

The minor in visual communication of science enhances science/biology/medical students’ ability to communicate science visually. Students who complete the minor will have a general understanding of design research, design principles, typography, storytelling, interpretation and creative problem solving. They will be comfortable with software tools for computer based design such as Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator, have a wide ranging skill set that can be applied toward communicating science with various tools, and be competent in the production and delivery of clear, thoughtful, well designed presentations of scientific research and subject matter.

General Requirements

To earn a degree, students must satisfy all requirements in each of the areas below, in addition to their individual major requirements.

Program Requirements


  1. All courses for this minor must be taken at CU Denver unless approved otherwise by the digital design faculty advisor.
  2. Each course must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better.
  3. Students may use up to 6 semester hours to fulfill both major and minor requirements; the remaining semester hours for the minor must be taken in addition to the major requirements.
