The Spanish program studies the language, linguistics, literature, culture and civilization of Spain, Spanish America and the Spanish-speaking areas of the United States.
These degree requirements are subject to periodic revision by the academic department, and the College reserves the right to make exceptions and substitutions as judged necessary in individual cases. Therefore, the College strongly urges students to consult regularly with their major advisor and CLAS advisor to confirm the best plans of study before finalizing them.

- To be admitted to major status in Spanish, students must have an overall GPA of C+ (2.3).
General Requirements
To earn a degree, students must satisfy all requirements in each of the areas below, in addition to their individual major requirements.

Program Requirements
- The minimum grade acceptable in any course applied to a Spanish major or minor is a C- (1.7).
- The GPA in all courses applied to a Spanish major at CU Denver must be 2.5.
- No courses taken on a pass/fail basis may be credited toward a Spanish major or minor.
- The BA in Spanish requires 36 semester hours of upper-division course work in Spanish though up to 6 hours may be taken in related fields.
- A minimum of 18 semester hours of Spanish course work for the major, and 9 hours for the minor, must be taken from Spanish faculty at CU Denver.
- Courses taken at other institutions while a student is enrolled at CU Denver may be applied to the major only with departmental approval before enrollment in those courses.
- Before enrolling in their final semester in the language, Spanish majors must be evaluated by the faculty in oral and written skills. Students must see their Spanish advisor for specific information.
- Students majoring in Spanish for the BA degree must complete 36 semester hours of upper-division course work, at least 12 of which must be at the 4000-level. At least 30 semester hours must be taught in Spanish.
