CAM General Course Requirements


(in addition to major requirements)

Intellectual Competencies


Must earn grade of C- (1.7) or higher in each course.

English Writing


Total: 6 Hours


Mathematics


Select one course from the following list:

Total: 3-4 Hours


Knowledge Areas


Must earn a passing grade of D- (0.7) or higher in each course.

Biological and Physical Sciences


Select two courses from the list below. At least one course must include a laboratory. The non-laboratory course can be selected from list below or the MATH list above (excluding the course used to fulfill the mathematics requirement). All options below include a lab, except where noted otherwise.

Arts


All CAM undergraduates must complete at least one course in the arts outside of their major area.  Specifically:

 

Music majors must take 3 semester hours in theatre, film and/or visual arts
Visual arts majors must take 3 semester hours in theatre, film and/or music
Theatre/film majors must take 3 semester hours in visual arts and/or music

 

Students may mix and match disciplines to reach 3 semester hours, or they may take a 3 semester hour course in one discipline.

A study abroad experience may also fulfill this requirement.  Pre-approval by a CAM academic advisor is required.

Foreign Language


Required of CAM undergraduates with majors in the Department of Visual Arts or the Department of Theatre, Film and Video Production.  Undergraduates in the Department of Music and Entertainment Industry Studies are exempt from this requirement.  

  • Second college semester proficiency in a single foreign language
  • 0-10 credit hours
  • Demonstrated by one of the following:
    • Completion of a 2nd year (Level II) high school course with a minimum grade of C- (1.7) in the final semester.
    • 2nd semester (Level II) college-level course with minimum grade of C- (1.7).  May not be taken pass/fail.  A “conversation” course is not acceptable.

General Electives
