MECH 4163 - Rigid-Body Dynamics


Review of Newtonian dynamics, Lagrange’s equations for particles, systems, and rigid bodies. Conservative and non-conservative systems, moments of inertia, principal axes, angular momentum and Euler equations. Illustrations from spinning bodies, including tops, gyro-compass and rotating machinery. Prereq: MECH 2033 or CVEN 3111, MATH 3195 or (MATH 3191 and MATH 3200). Cross-listed with MECH 5163.
