PUAD 5120 - Nonprofits and Public Policy Examines the intersection of public policy and the nonprofit world and the ways in which each affects the other. The course examines current policy issues that relate to the nonprofit sector such as conversion of nonprofit to for-profit status, regulation of the nonprofit sector, issues of financial management, the role of nonprofits in devolution and privatization of government services, tax exemptions, “charitable choice,” donor control, governance and the future of the future of the sector. The course examines the ways nonprofits have affected the policy process and public policies by exploring the factors that shape social movements, nonprofit advocacy, strategies of influence, and the role of nonprofits in social movements such as Civil Rights and the environment. Restrictions: Restricted to Graduate and Graduate Non-Degree majors within CU Denver. Max hours: 3 Credits. Semester Hours: 3 to 3
